CCARPH Project Leader and Principal Investigator, Dr. Emma Porio, is a distinguished academic and scholar known for her contributions to the fields of Education, Environment, and Sustainability Sociology.
Dr. Porio’s outstanding work in her respective fields has earned her this recognition. She is a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, School of Social Sciences, at the Ateneo de Manila University and recently conferred Professor Emeritus, indeed her contributions have made a significant impact in her areas of expertise, including scholarship, mentorship, and practice.
Moreover, Dr Porio contributes as a Science Research Fellow at the Manila Observatory, and heads important transdisciplinary, ADMU projects – Coastal Cities at Risk in the Philippines, holds a Fellowship in the Areté Sandbox Residency, co-directs the Master of Disaster Risk and Resilience Program, and acts as the Lead Author for ‘Climate Change and City’ within the Urban Climate Change Research Network at Columbia University. Beyond this, Emma plays pivotal roles as a Board Member for the Philippine Center for Population and Development, as part of the National Selection Committee for the Galing Pook Awards for Excellence in Local Governance, and as a Research Advisor for the Children’s Laboratory, among other endeavors.
Dr Porio is set to receive the 21st Manuel L. Quezon Gawad Parangal Award in 2023, an honor bestowed by the Quezon City Government. The prestigious award is given to individuals and institutions with remarkable achievements that bring honor not only to themselves but also to the city and the country. The MLQ Gawad Parangal Awards Night was held last 25th October 2023 at the PETA Theatre in New Manila, Quezon City.
