Dr. Emma Porio, Project Leader and Principal Investigator for CCARPH, and Professor with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the Ateneo, was part of the Philippine delegation for the recently concluded UNDRR Global Platform for Disaster Risk and Resilience (GP2022). The summit was held last May 23-28, 2022 in Bali, Indonesia. Heading the delegation was the Undersecretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Dr. Renato Solidum, Jr.
The GP2022 is “guided by the Sendai Framework goal, priorities for action and targets, the key priorities identified at the previous Global Platform held in Geneva, Switzerland in 2019 as well as those stemming from the Regional Platform meetings. The GP2022 has taken stock of Sendai Framework implementation, recommend actions for policy makers, highlight good practices and raise awareness. The outcomes have been synthesized in the co-Chair’s summary and will contribute to the inter-governmental midterm review of the Sendai Framework scheduled for 2023.”
The event has provided a timely opportunity to emphasize the importance of international solidarity and cooperation, as well as to provide an avenue to address the underlying risk drivers both locally and globally. “Additionally, it has explored how to strengthen disaster risk governance and how to build stronger systems for managing all types of risks.”
