The Eduardo J. Aboitiz Sandbox Zone at the Areté opens the SAGIP exhibit to the public on February 13 to showcase how the Ateneo Innovation Center‘s technologies help bridge the gap between basic needs and the constraints brought about by disaster events.
SAGIP highlights some of the innovations of AIC that are designed to help people in real-time disaster events and also empower communities to find ways to save themselves through accessible, affordable makeshift technologies. The word, sagip, means to save or to rescue which sums up how saving people in disaster events should not be grand but only efficient.
Ateneo de Manila University President Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin, SJ and
International Development Research Centre Senior Program Officer Dr. Mélanie Robertson joined Areté Executive Director Yael Buencamino-Borromeo and
Coastal Cities at Risk in the Philippines Project Leader Dr. Emma Porio in officially opening the exhibit to the public.
AIC Director Dr. Fabian Dayrit also attended the opening of the exhibit, with students and Professor Dr. Nathaniel Libatique and AIC Head of Operations Paul Cabacungan.
The exhibit is organized and completed through collaboration and partnership among Areté, the Fine Arts Department of the Ateneo de Manila University, Coastal Cities at Risk in the Philippines Project, and AIC.
